Job description

The Firm

FP Legal is located in Downtown Calgary, serving clients in the areas of Personal Injury, Real Estate Transactions, Civil Litigation and Corporate/Commercial Law. We take a client-centered approach in the provision of excellent legal representation.

Position: Legal Assistant

We are seeking a self-motivated Legal Assistant to ensure smooth running of the office and effective file management. The successful candidate will provide a broad spectrum of legal services under the supervision of a supervising lawyer providing legal services in the area of Real Estate supporting the real firm’s real estate practice.

The responsibilities will include the following:

·         Preparing and reviewing a number of documents

·         Organizing client files

·         Being involved in all aspects of a real estate transaction

·         Written and verbal communication with clients, opposing counsels, insurance representative, etc.

·         Maintaining confidentiality of client files and records

·         Responsible for time management and prioritization of tasks for various individuals

·         Proficient at managing a demanding workload supporting a very busy practice

·         Answering telephone calls

·         Providing additional assistance to lawyers and other co-workers as required

Requirements

Completion of a recognized Legal Assistant program

1 - 3 years of relevant experience in-house or at a law firm

Experience with Cosmolex, PCLAW, or CLIO is a strong asset

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong proof reading, grammar and editing skills

Excellent attention to detail and commitment to deadlines

High level of professionalism in dealing with clients and other contacts

Able to work independently ensuring ongoing management of files

Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office Suite: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
