Flames clinch playoff spot despite 3-2 loss to Edmonton
Oilers.
Although the Edmonton
Oilers got a 3-2 win over the Calgary Flames Saturday night thanks to Patrick
Thoresen's tie-breaking goal in the third period, it was the Flames that were
celebrating after learning earlier in the evening that they had clinched a
playoff spot.
For the Flames, what began as a must-win game turned into a want-to-win game midway through the second period when the final score from Colorado was announced over the public address system: Nashville's 4-2 victory eliminated the Avalanche, giving Calgary the eighth and final playoff spot in the West.
오늘밤 벌어진 홈경기에서 Flames는 Oilers에게 3대2로 패했습니다. 하지만 Flames를 추격하던 Colorado역시 Nashville에게 4대2로 패하는 바람에 Flames가 마침내 대망의 스텐리컵을 향한 Playoff에 진출하게된 것입니다.
이제 Playoff전에서 상대할 팀은 Detroit Red Wings로서 강팀입니다. 하지만 작년에 Oilers가 어렵게 Playoff에 진출하여 강팀을 연파하면서 스텐리컵 결승에 올라가는 이변이 있었던 것을 우리는 기억합니다. 결국 7차전에서 패하는 바람에 Hurricanes에게 스텐리컵을 내주긴 했습니다만..
아무튼 Flames의 또다른 면모를 Playoff 전에서 기대해 봅니다.
