The City of Calgary Youth Employment Centre has set up a temporary location to assist Calgary’s youth ages 15 – 24 with their career and employment needs. Youth can drop in anytime Monday to Friday between 8:00am – 4:30pm at the University of Calgary Downtown Campus, Room 416, 906 8 Avenue SW.
Twelve youth participated in Jump$tart this past July. Jump$tart is a two week work preparation program hosted by the Youth Employment Centre for youth ages 15 and 16 years old. The youth had the opportunity to take part in a number of engaging workshops and presentations such as Effective Job Search Strategies, Resume Writing, Interview Preparation and Employment Standards and Safety in the Workplace.
UpStart, a United Way initiative, invites you to attend its annual Connect event. Connect is a full day event that brings teachers, school system administrators and service providers together in an engaging, interactive learning environment.
This month’s employer spotlight is the WoodWorks Program at The Calgary Drop-In and Rehab Centre.
WoodWorks provides 12 weeks of paid woodworking training to Calgarians between the ages of 16-35 who are considered homeless or ‘at-risk’. Participants work with an instructor in the DI WoodWork Shop which is located in the Manchester Industrial area.
