Client Target
- Unemployed or marginally employed
- Be an Alberta Resident
- Be at least 18 years old
- Meet citizenship requirements (e.g. Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or Convention Refugee) and be legally entitled to work and train in Canada
- Be committed to seeking employment and being employed
- Have sufficient physical/mental health to participate in, benefit from training and to maintain employment
- Be able to work full-time (minimum 30 hours per week) - both in a work experience setting and in employment after graduation
Program Length:
There are two paths that an individual can take:
- 48 weeks - For individuals scoring at the CLB 4
- 32 weeks - For individuals scoring at the CLB 5+
Students enter at the following semesters: April, August, November
Entry Requirements:
- CLB 4 (48 weeks)
- CLB 5+ (32 weeks)
- Mathematical Skills at the Grade 5/6 level
- Clear Police Information Check with vulnerable sector check
- Successful on the entry interview with the Coordinator Integrated Training and Work Experience
- Immunization Record (prior to entry into training)
Program Description:
This program provides an opportunity for clients with intermediate literacy and communications skills the opportunity to receive a combination of academic training, employability training, occupation-related essential skills, Alberta Education Childcare training and work experience in preparation for employment in daycares, pre-school programs, nursery schools and day homes.
Upon successful graduation from the program, the student will apply to the Alberta Government Child Care Staff Certification Office for a Child Development Assistant Certificate (formerly Level 1).
The program will consist of the following training components:
- Essential Skills English - Academic Upgrading - Reading comprehension, writing composition and oral language skills required for training and employment in the field.
- Essential Skills Math
- Vocabulary - study both every day functional and career-related vocabulary
- Computer Study
- Skills Training
- Nanny/Caregiver Curriculum
- Alberta Education - CTS Credentialed Pathways - Child Development Modules
- Standard Child Care First Aid Certificate
Clients who require additional ESL support and have eligible training months may be placed in ESL classes in preparation for this Integrated Training Program.
Client Funding Grant Eligibility:
Income Support may be available if the client is:
- Currently receiving Employment Insurance (EI) or
- EI Eligible where the client has either received:
- Employment Insurance (EI) in the last three years, or
- Maternity/Parental Employment Insurance (EI) in the last five years, or
- Currently receiving Alberta Works Income Support (Expected to Work), or
- An unemployed or marginally employed Albertan
