In Edmonton, there have been numerous complaints about someone going door-to-door claiming to be from a local utility. They even have clothing and ID from the utility. The goal of this scam appears to be to gain access to the home.

In the past, we’ve heard reports about scammers claiming to be from ENMAX. ENMAX does not sell door-to-door. Recent changes from the Alberta government, have stopped all energy (electricity/natural gas) companies from selling door-to-door.

If you’re suspicious of someone at your door claiming to be from a utility or energy company:

• Do not let them in
• Do not share personal information including bill information
• Call local police
