아버지들은 우리를 인도하고 가르치며 고무시켜 줍니다. 아버지들은 우리가 힘든 시기를 겪을 때 우리의 방패이자 닻입니다. 아버지들은 우리의 영웅이자 보호자이며 우리의 가장 큰 지지자입니다.

오늘 우리는 아버지들이 우리 삶 깊숙이 미친 영향과 앞으로의 우리 삶에 계속될 영향 그리고 멋진 남성들을 축하합니다. 우리는 또한 제가 사랑하는 저희 아버지를 기억하듯이, 우리 곁을 떠난 분들을 기억하며 우리 가슴속에 품고 있는 기억들을 소중히 간직하고 있습니다.

이 특별한 날, 우리는 6월 25일에 가장 가까운 일요일에 오타와에서 진행되는 한국전 정전 69주년을 기념하기 위해 오타와에 위치한 역사적인 전쟁 기념비에 함께 할 것입니다. 우리는 누군가의 아버지였거나 또는 캐나다로 돌아왔을 때 아버지가 되었던 사랑하는 참전 용사들에게 경의를 표할 것입니다. 그들은 희생에 따른 명예, 국경을 초월한 동료를 향한 의무 그리고 자유에는 대가가 따른다는 것을 상기시켜줍니다. 우리는 많은 아버지들과 할아버지들이 자녀들과 손주들을 위해 과거의 분쟁들에서 희생과 의무를 다했기 때문에 자유롭고 민주적이며 평화로운 나라에서 살고 있습니다. 우리는 모든 분들께 영원히 감사할 것이며 그분들의 유산을 결코 잊지 않을 것입니다.

캐나다 상원을 대표해, 우리 위대한 나라의 모든 아버지, 할아버지, 증조할아버지, 예비 아버지 그리고 아버지 역할을 하시는 모든 분들께 행복한 아버지의 날이 되시길 바랍니다.

Fathers guide, teach, and inspire us. They are our shield and anchor when times are tough. They are our heroes, our protectors, and our biggest supporters.

Today we celebrate these amazing men and the profound impact they have had and continue to have on our lives. We also remember those we have lost, as I remember my own beloved father, and hold dear our memories that we carry in our hearts. 

It is fitting that on this special day we will gather at the historic National War Memorial in Ottawa to commemorate the 69th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice at the annual ceremony held on the Sunday closest to June 25th, in Ottawa. We pay tribute to our beloved veterans, many who were fathers during the War or became fathers upon their return to Canada. They remind us that there is honour in sacrifice, a duty to our fellow man that transcends national borders, and that freedom is never free. We live in a free, democratic, and peaceful country because of the sacrifice and duty of the many fathers and grandfathers in conflicts past, who paid that awful price so that their children and grandchildren would not have to. We will forever be grateful to each of them and will never forget their legacies.

On behalf of the Senate of Canada, happy Father’s Day to all the fathers, (great) grandfathers, soon to be fathers and father figures across our great nation.
